Kiss Your Halloween Decorating Stress Goodbye!

Kiss Your Halloween Decorating Stress Goodbye!

I love decorating my home for Fall and Halloween, but with my hectic schedule, I am sometimes short of time. An important rule to sometimes live by when it comes to decorating is the KISS rule, "Keep it Simple Stupid." So, this year I challenged myself to keep my decorating simple.

Front Porch Decorated for Halloween

Simple decorating begins at your home! Bust out those boxes of Halloween and Fall decor. Next, think about the areas in your home that you want to decorate. Is it your kitchen? Dining Room for a party? Your Front Door? I typically think of 3 focal areas, decide on a theme and color story, and then pick the decor I have that fits the look.

My theme this year is Halloween Candy, specifically candy corn, so my color story is orange, yellow black and white! The three focal areas I am going to decorate are my Front Porch, Entry Tables and the Kitchen Table.

Candy Corn in Yellow Fiesta Bowl

The key to simple decorating is to invest in products that celebrate every season, holiday or family celebration. Here are three of my favorite products.

1. Coton Colors

I love Coton Colors and their Happy Everything bases because they allow you to easily transition from holiday to holiday or just everyday celebrations with seasonal attachments. I had a back to school attachment up, but quickly switched it out with a Candy Corn Attachment to match my Halloween Decor.

Coton Colors offers several different styles of bases is 2 different sizes. There is Black and White Stripe, White Neutral Stripe and the Neutral Dot. A style to fit in with any home!

2. The Round Top Collection

The Round Top Collection has a line called, “Celebrate Everyday,” that is made for transitional decorating. There is a wide variety of bases and finials that you can choose from. The Bubble Jar base was perfect to use as my candy jar filled with Candy Corn to share, and I chose the Black Cat Finial to top it off because 1) he is adorable and 2) his bowtie and hat match the theme.

I am a strong believer in adding a bow to everything to spruce it up! Here tied a 3 tier bow made from a thin Glittered with a Black and White Check Rim Ribbon.

The Round Top Collection also has seasonal stakes that you use in your flower pots, or you can unscrew the stake, and add it as the center piece of your wreath or teardrop. My plants are luckily still alive, so I added the the Candy Stakes to my Flower Pot.

3. Glory Haus

I am obsessed with the Glory Haus Welcome sign. The sign comes with holiday toppers that fit right on top. I switched out the American Flag to the Fall Pumpkin, and it fit my theme perfectly. I will keep the pumpkin up until its time to transition to the Christmas Tree Topper. The Welcome Sign comes with several different toppers to use through out the year.

Glory Haus Welcome Sign with Seasonal Toppers

The simplest trick for quick and easy decorating is using Bows! I know I say it all of the time, but it is true. I used three beautiful Wired Designer Ribbon in the color story to tie big fluffy bows to wire on my porch lights.

Use a Four inch Statement Ribbon for your big loops, then layer on top thinner accent ribbons to create a beautiful and full bow. We understand the importance of products with great quality that last year after year, so we use ribbon that is not only sturdy and easy to fluff each year, but it is also weather resistant and perfect for both inside your house and out.

Using 4" Wired Designer Ribbon Creates a Statement Bow with a Few Loops and Tails

2.5" Sheer Black Wired Ribbon 4" Black and White Hounds-tooth Ribbon, 4" Orange with Gold Stripes Ribbon Bow

I always treat my front porch as an extension of my home. I added a bench with pillows to match my theme. My Black and White rug would look so cute with a Halloween mat on top. That just means I need to go shopping! Make a great first impression on your guests with how you decorate your Front Door.

Finally, the Halloween Teardrop completes the look and is the right size proportion for my door. I have two nails in my door painted to match the door to hang my wreaths or teardrops, but for this teardrop, the nails were not in the location I wanted. This is where Command Hooks come in handy! I attached the hook to the middle glass panel and hung the Decorated Teardrop.

Invest in easy decorating that you can use and add to every year. We suggest starting with Coton Colors Happy Everything, The Round Top Collection and Glory Haus.

Show Me How to Make a Fiesta Wreath

Fiesta Wreath Ingredients

Fiesta in San Antonio begins this year on April 10th. Fiesta is an annual Spring celebration that  started in 1891 when a group of citizens decided to honor the heroes of the Alamo and Battle of San Jacinto with a Battle of Flowers.
The first parade had horse-drawn carriages, bicycles decorated with fresh flowers and floats carrying children dressed as flowers. The participants pelted each other with blossoms. It is the largest celebration in San Antonio and includes many parades(River , Flambeau, & Battle of Flowers) festivals(Oyster Bake & King Williams Fair), NIOSA, and a city wide holiday for Battle of Flowers Parade.

To decorate homes, people add Fiesta wreathes to their front door with lots of ribbon, flowers, in bright colors.

Ready to make your own? You can with Show Me Decorating’s easy to follow steps-

What makes for a fabulous seasonal wreath?

1.Quality Ingredients- start with a good base. A wreath with sturdy branches/arms that will hold it’s form when you shape it. Choose colorful focal points to set the theme for your wreath, Wired ribbon in several widths, & Florals.

Show Me a St. Patrick’s Day Wreath

St. Patrick Day Decorations

St. Patrick’s Day is an enchanted time – a day to begin transforming winter’s dreams into summer’s magic.  ~Adrienne Cook

Start with a St. Patty’s Day Wreath in lively shades of Green, Gold, White, and Black

St. Patrick's Day Wreath

1. Quality Base Wreath- I repurposed from Halloween. A black wreath can be used for many season’s when topped with the colors of the Seasons. Wreathes come in many colors and a green tinsel wreath would be great for St. Patty’s Day. Shop at http://www.showmedecorating.com/collections/wreath.

2. Next add in focal points. To save, I purchased these focal points from @PartyCity. A Green & gold thin garland with gold 4 leaf clovers,  a Lebrechaun Hat, and a Lucky Horseshoe

3. Black and white tied into a Show Me Bow will top off the wreath, with pig tail bows added in and gold balls for the gold at the end of the rainbow.

4. When you decorate a wreath, think in the shape of a triangle and in 3’s.

Another touch of the season is to decorate a table top. Here I reused the same ingredients just in a different way.

Top off your table top decorating with a festive chandelier! Alta Lynn uses a base of Christmas green pine garland wrapped around the iron chandelier. She added a felt vine with red hearts, and the black and white polka dot ribbon ties it all together.

Show Me Tip: Invest in a great quality green garland and use it as a base for many decorating ideas. Most garlands (unlit) can be cut to the desired length with wire cutters.

Red wire was used to hang Old World red glass hearts and conversation hearts. Cut wire in different lengths and wrap on arms of the chandelier, finish off the other end with a heart and a curl.

3.Set your table days before and designate serving pieces for selections of food to be served

I love to re-purpose, re-use and recycle my holiday decorations. My Christmas doorway this year was a Red and white color story, complete with Santa faces and candy canes. After Christmas I removed the Santa faces and Candy canes (they were wired on) and stored them away with Christmas. I left everything on on my green pine garland that is attached to permanent screws around my doorway. Red and white ribbon, a white sparkle garland and all the assortment of red, white and red and white patterned balls.

Valentines is a favorite holiday celebration for me. Probably because I Love, love, love RED, and my birthday is February 12th. I love to throw a party for myself and decorate for valentines day! My next favorite color (or color combo ) is Black and white! I have collected serving platters in black and white to use for many celebrations! So it was only natural for me to add Black and white in with valentines day!

I collected my new wooden conversation hearts from Adams and Company and my stash of Black and white polka dot ribbon ( Love polka dots too!) and transformed my Christmas garland into my Valentine Doorway! Love is in the air!

Show Me a Valentine Chandelier

Show Me A Valentine Chandelier…

How about adding a little LOVE to your chandelier? I did and I love it! I was blessed last year to redo our kitchen and when I did I knew I wanted a light fixture that I could decorate for the holidays!

QUICK TIP:

Valentine decorating, Valentine chandelier

Valentine Chandelier

Just a few steps

1. Gather your ingredients-I used 2 decorative garlands, #ShowMeDecorating bows, and a focal point. Learn to tie a bow at http://www.bowapp.showmedecorating.com

2. I wound the decorative red pom pom garland up the chandelier and the heart garland around the candle lights, then added my black and white check balls(I love to use these for Halloween, Christmas and Valentines).

3. Show Me Bows are a perky touch of color for this house of boys! I love to mix ribbon together but for something different I alternated plaid bows and solid red bows.

4. I added a glittered(every celebration needs a touch of glitter) Heart as a focal point. I  hung it high enough to not interfere with family dinner discussions which are quite lively in our house-did I mention that I have 4 boys?

Then I added a cut out Valentine runner(from @Target) and my @Coton Colors Happy Everything plate with #Valentine attachment.

Happy Valentines and spread some LOVE!

Show Me Your Christmas Cards

Show me your Christmas card and I will show you mine!

For years I have sent out Christmas cards to family and friends. It always included a picture, sometimes a collage of pictures and possibly a short update or letter about our family.

I also receive many cards and photos and love to decorate with them during the season. However when Christmas has come and gone I can never bring myself to throw them away. I would bundle the year together and place in a box or closet somewhere, tucked away. That is until a friend Krisann Blair (Organizing Christmas ) shared her idea of hole punching the cards and using binder rings to create a book.

Stacks of Christmas cards and letters, ready to create a Christmas card flip book!

Finishing touch, add a touch of ribbon tied to binder ring!

I decided with all the different size cards and letters I would put a hole punch in the top corner and place on the ring. I also added a  length of ribbon for a finishing touch. We all enjoyed looking through the past years and how everyone has grownup, gotten taller or shorter, slimmer or ….well you know! It is fun to enjoy our family and friends through their pictures and letters and I am excited to see how many more stacks I locate from past years as I clean out and reorganize for 2014. Now I have a way to keep them organized and out on display.

Supplies:

Christmas Cards

hole punch

binder ring

piece of wired ribbon (I keep ribbon from all my Christmas gifts!)

So now you too can Show off your family and friends Christmas cards and greetings!

Happy New Year! Happy Decorating Y’all!

This tree is reminiscent of a live poinsettia tree. The best of both worlds, live red poinsettias encircle the beautiful Royal Red and Gold Tree Theme, and are low enough to maintain. The tree is filled with permanent botanicals (no watering required!) of big red poinsettias, glitter leaves and sprays. The fresh poinsettias fool the eye into believing this Christmas scene is a real tree!  First Baptist Church in Midland was forced to temporarily relocate to the Midland Center, due to a fire, during the Holiday season. The Show Me Decorating’s Midland team came to the rescue with a plan! A theme and color story were determined, ribbon, balls and florals were selected. The team kept in mind future decorating needs and the ability to reuse the investment decorating the Midland Center. This beautiful tree will be able to move to the reconstructed church for the NEW season and coordinate with their overall Christmas decorating theme and color story!
