Show Me decorations that “Light Up” the Party

Show Me decorations that “Light Up” party!

The theme for the couples shower was love, and the event was hosted in the month of love, February. We love to look for unusual ways to carry out the theme and color story throughout the house.

Top off your table top decorating with a festive chandelier! Alta Lynn uses a base of Christmas green pine garland wrapped around the iron chandelier. She added a felt vine with red hearts, and the black and white polka dot ribbon ties it all together.

Show Me Tip: Invest in a great quality green garland and use it as a base for many decorating ideas. Most garlands (unlit) can be cut to the desired length with wire cutters.

Red wire was used to hang Old World red glass hearts and conversation hearts. Cut wire in different lengths and wrap on arms of the chandelier, finish off the other end with a heart and a curl.

Lamps are another great place to decorate for celebrations, parties or seasonally.

The theme of Love is lit up and ready for the couples shower to begin! As you begin planning your next celebration or party consider these 3 tips

Show Me Decorating Tips:

1.Select a theme or color story: Love, Valentines with Red, Pink, Black and White

2.Gather decorations (at home or shopping) to coordinate and compliment the theme and color story: Valentine hearts, ribbon, table cloth, runner, centerpiece (remember the gift, a #CotonColors Happy Everything plate & attachments, is used on this table with fresh flowers in a pitcher added)

3.Set your table days before and designate serving pieces for selections of food to be served

Alta Lynn’s tip:  Enlist a friend and it goes twice as fast!

Show Me a Couples Shower…..Bring a Blender for her, Some tools for him, or pick out a present for the two of them!

How do you decorate and  celebrate a couples shower in February….. with love that is! Considering that the month of Love is February, what better time to host a couples shower when your house is decorated for Valentines!

As proper etiquette would have it, a shower is hosted after a wedding where everyone is not invited to the wedding……so the good friends of the mother and father of the groom hosted a couples shower. What better time than a noon Sandwich, chips and dip bar!

And where do we start? With a theme and color story!

Theme: Couples shower & wedding celebration. Color story: Red, pink and black and white! Hearts and Love!

Conversation Hearts…Don’t you L-O-V-E them?

They are cute, small and oh so sweet! ( In words and taste)

Here’s a fun way to decorate with Conversation Hearts..

Ingredients-

Glass Jars

@NECO Conversation Hearts( I bought mine at #HEB but you can get them anywhere)

@Nestle Crunch Heart candy

Ribbon (ShowMeDecorating.com has great choices) buy great wired ribbon so you can use it for multiple seasons

Focal point

Decorate for Valentines with Conversation Hearts

I first layered the Nestle Crunch Hearts and NECO Conversation Hearts in a jar. I placed the Nestle Crunch Hearts facing the outside of the jar and tried to alternate the colors. Not necessary but I was trying for a really great picture.  I loaded the other jar up with NECO Conversation Hearts in boxes for a different look.  It’s always best to decorate in 3’s so I used a candy dish and filled it with red hearts.  @RedHots are also a great Valentine candy to decorate with.

NECO, Crunch, Coton Colors

Decorating with Hearts and Chocolate

Now, it’s time to add a #ShowMeDecorating Bow.  Love the colors of Valentines-Red, White, Pink, Purple and it’s fun to add in different textures polka dots, stripes, or harlequin or chevron. There are so many choices but always choose a wired ribbon because it will hold it’s shape and it’s easy to tie a bow with.

Cut the length you need to go around your jar and attach. Now, tie your bow and tie it on to the jar.

Add a focal point- Isn’t this oversized #ConversationHeart adorable? Available from showmedecorating.com

Sweeeeet!

Quick easy and CUTE! I love my Happy Everything plate from @CotonColors that I can use for “everything”  just by changing out the attachment!

Happy Valentines!

Valentine Conversations Hearts and Christmas Garland?

Show Me Decorating Door Decor!

I love to re-purpose, re-use and recycle my holiday decorations. My Christmas doorway this year was a Red and white color story, complete with Santa faces and candy canes. After Christmas I removed the Santa faces and Candy canes (they were wired on) and stored them away with Christmas. I left everything on on my green pine garland that is attached to permanent screws around my doorway. Red and white ribbon, a white sparkle garland and all the assortment of red, white and red and white patterned balls.

Valentines is a favorite holiday celebration for me. Probably because I Love, love, love RED, and my birthday is February 12th. I love to throw a party for myself and decorate for valentines day! My next favorite color (or color combo ) is Black and white! I have collected serving platters in black and white to use for many celebrations! So it was only natural for me to add Black and white in with valentines day!

I collected my new wooden conversation hearts from Adams and Company and my stash of Black and white polka dot ribbon ( Love polka dots too!) and transformed my Christmas garland into my Valentine Doorway! Love is in the air!

Show Me a Valentine Chandelier

Show Me A Valentine Chandelier…

How about adding a little LOVE to your chandelier? I did and I love it! I was blessed last year to redo our kitchen and when I did I knew I wanted a light fixture that I could decorate for the holidays!

QUICK TIP:

Valentine decorating, Valentine chandelier

Valentine Chandelier

Just a few steps

1. Gather your ingredients-I used 2 decorative garlands, #ShowMeDecorating bows, and a focal point. Learn to tie a bow at http://www.bowapp.showmedecorating.com

2. I wound the decorative red pom pom garland up the chandelier and the heart garland around the candle lights, then added my black and white check balls(I love to use these for Halloween, Christmas and Valentines).

3. Show Me Bows are a perky touch of color for this house of boys! I love to mix ribbon together but for something different I alternated plaid bows and solid red bows.

4. I added a glittered(every celebration needs a touch of glitter) Heart as a focal point. I  hung it high enough to not interfere with family dinner discussions which are quite lively in our house-did I mention that I have 4 boys?

Then I added a cut out Valentine runner(from @Target) and my @Coton Colors Happy Everything plate with #Valentine attachment.

Happy Valentines and spread some LOVE!

Simple Valentine

Wow…its already nearing the end of January and to be honest I just finished putting all my Christmas stuff away.  Most years I allow my house to be decoration free for several weeks however, I took Christmas down and put Valentine’s up this year.  My Christmas colors flow very nicely into Valentine’s so the transition was pretty easy this year.

lisa frost, show me decorating, valentine's

Valentine Garland with Lisa Frost heart.

I just switched my ribbon out, added purple Amaryllis flowers as well as the small pink and multi sequin balls. Another great addition to this garland would be our Adam’s and Company conversation hearts ornaments. My Lisa Frost banner has appeared multiple places through out my house: front door, above my mantle and now attached to my fireplace screen.  Great purchase!adamsandco, conversation hearts, show me decorating, valentines

I do not go all out all over my house for Valentine’s.  I like to add just a touch on a few places. One of my favorite pieces in my home is my custom made hutch by my Grandad.  I showcase my serving pieces, festive glass ware, fiesta dishes and recently I was able to purchase awesome chevron chargers by @cotton colors.

Show Me Your Christmas Cards

Show me your Christmas card and I will show you mine!

For years I have sent out Christmas cards to family and friends. It always included a picture, sometimes a collage of pictures and possibly a short update or letter about our family.

I also receive many cards and photos and love to decorate with them during the season. However when Christmas has come and gone I can never bring myself to throw them away. I would bundle the year together and place in a box or closet somewhere, tucked away. That is until a friend Krisann Blair (Organizing Christmas ) shared her idea of hole punching the cards and using binder rings to create a book.

Stacks of Christmas cards and letters, ready to create a Christmas card flip book!

Finishing touch, add a touch of ribbon tied to binder ring!

I decided with all the different size cards and letters I would put a hole punch in the top corner and place on the ring. I also added a  length of ribbon for a finishing touch. We all enjoyed looking through the past years and how everyone has grownup, gotten taller or shorter, slimmer or ….well you know! It is fun to enjoy our family and friends through their pictures and letters and I am excited to see how many more stacks I locate from past years as I clean out and reorganize for 2014. Now I have a way to keep them organized and out on display.

Supplies:

Christmas Cards

hole punch

binder ring

piece of wired ribbon (I keep ribbon from all my Christmas gifts!)

So now you too can Show off your family and friends Christmas cards and greetings!

Happy New Year! Happy Decorating Y’all!

Becky and Kathy
