Christmas Decorating in Funky Colors

One of my personal favorites! Who could ever be sad when surrounded by these colors!

Sometimes we ignore the décor and go with traditional colors for the Christmas decorating and sometimes we embrace the décor and treat it as part of the whole look.

I love summer and I love America. The fact that two of my favorite holidays are close together, Memorial Day and the 4th of July allows for multi use of my collection of patriotic goodies.

Show Me a Graduation Picnic in the Park

Show Me a Graduation Picnic in the Park……

The honoree, Coby, who is now a Tech Red Raider!

When planning a party or celebration the Show Me Decorating team starts with a theme and color story. For this event, the picnic in the park was celebrating graduation, and the future university Coby is attending, Texas Tech. So with this in mind the color story revolved around Red and Black!

We could have also chosen the high school colors for Robert E Lee, maroon and white!

We choose a park in close driving distance from the high school and arrived early to secure some shade. We provided our own table, with blankets and quilts for the kids to eat and relax on.

We visited the Show Me Decorating online store for items to support our theme and color story!

We gathered up serving pieces, table cloths, trays and baskets in Red, Black and White

Now that the location is set, the theme and color story are planned, its time to pick the menu.

Some of the criteria for a picnic in the park during high school open lunch.

Easy pick up food, no utensils needed, no drippy messes, no melting stickiness, simple to eat, and of course yummy for even the pickiest eaters!

Menu: Hawaiian Sandwiches, chips, brownie bites, cookies, and small bakery cakes.

A cooler was fixed with iced down water and Dr. Pepper

Red plates and napkins

One of our go to recipes is the Hawaiian Sandwich. Our dear friend Debbie created these for the Lee baseball team when they headed out on road trips. We have adapted it to fit our own personal taste. We also love to fix these at the lake to take out on the boat!

Key ingredients for the Hawaiian Sandwiches, Kings Hawaiian bread, mayo, honey mustard, colby jack chess, pepper jack chess, honey mesquite ham, and peppered turkey breast. Lettuce, tomatoes and avocado are optional.

Assembling the Hawaiian sandwiches

Assembling the Hawaiian sandwiches

Remove bread from wrapper , cut top off with a serrated bread knife, put bottom back in pan. Add a scoop of mayo and a squirt or two of honey mustard and spread on each side. (there are different variations to dress your sandwiches, however this is my families favorite) Next layer top half with colby jack cheese and bottom half with pepper jack cheese, covering with layer of cheese. Add a layer of ham to colby jack  side and turkey to the pepper jack side then put together. Press down with your hand, slice in eight slices like a pie and place back in the wrapper securing with the bag tie. Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve. These are best made the night before.

Lettuce, tomatoes and avocados are optional. It is best to add these right before serving so the sandwich is not soggy and people can choose to add if they like.

Sliced avocados, lettuce and tomatoes are optional.

Honoring the memory of Cooper C McCraney

Cooper Clinton McCraney

Cooper Clinton McCraney

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday which occurs every year on the final Monday of May.[1] Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.[2] Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in the military service.[

In honor of my father n law, who served during  World War II, I like to decorate the mantel with his picture, flag and certificate for service signed by Richard Nixon. I pull in other Patriotic pieces from my collection to coordinate and compliment the Red, White and Blue theme. It is a great teaching tool with the kids and grandkids. It is an opportunity to reflect on the lives of so many men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice and service to our country.

We are free today because so many have given so much.

This week has been a great reminder of what makes America strong- that in the times of destruction we can come together and help those in need. It reminds us that we can pray for those affected by the storms and we can give to those who can offer practical help.

If you would like to help, Samaritan’s Purse http://www.samaritanspurse.org and the Red Cross http://www.redcross.org are wonderful organizations that provide on the ground help to those directly hurt by the storms.

Lets celebrate freedom!

Round Top Collection's Chalkboard jars

Add a touch of the season’s to any room in your house with the Round Top Collection’s Chalkboard jars by changing out magnets to match the season or mood.

A favorite stuffed teddy is all dressed for a parade, and my collection of red, white and blue is all brought out to celebrate America’s birthday!  (or Memorial Day). I have been collecting for years and store it all in accessible clear tubs marked “patriotic”.
A new favorite to add to my collection of seasonal decorating is the Round Top Collection’s Chalkboard jars. This versatile Jar with the change of a magnet or chalkboard message leaps from one celebration to the next!
I love to group complimentary items to make a statement. The metal flag container doubles as a silverware holder for the fun family cookout! Filled with a permanent ivy the green adds life. You could easily substitute a fresh flowering plant or maybe a fresh herb!
Ribbon! The addition of red satin ribbon compliments the red, white and blue theme.

Decorate Once Celebrate Twice or Three times..Valentines, Birthdays, and more

Decorating can be so fun when it’s easy and especially rewarding when you benefit more than once! At Show Me Decorating, we go all out for Christmas and ok-Halloween, but I also love to add a touch of the other celebrations through out the year. It may just be my candle jars changed out with sea shells for summer or back to school supplies for the month of September. I do LOVE Valentines.( Maybe, it’s because I’m a mother of 4 boys but I always want to spread L-O-V-E instead of f-i-g-h-t-i-n-g, but that’s another story.) This year for Valentines,  I decorated my door,  my candle jars, and my new chandelier.

Valentine Decorating-Jennifer '13

To decorate, I tied new @ShowMeDecorating.com bows with our fabulous wired ribbon for my door, chandelier, and candle jars. Great way to re purpose from Christmas! I love my @LisaFrost door banner and my talented niece and Show Me Decorator, Katy,  created the cute complimentary Hearts that are a little bit funky. I always love to add color with flowers for my pots from @Lowes and change these out for the season. I filled my candle jars with @conversation hearts and @redhots from @Target where I also found the cute Heart cut out table runner.

So, when an opportunity arrived to have a party-I was ready!

Valentine Table set

There is nothing more fun than hosting a party for a friend’s birthday!  I was very blessed this week to host a surprise luncheon for my friend, Suzanne.  Ashley, Suzanne’s daughter,  a fabulous chef and party specialist created a yummy lunch and fabulous birthday decorations that complemented my Valentine’s decorations. She really out did herself! I had decorated my chandelier with #showmedecorating #bows and covered the table in a simple black cloth with a chevron table runner from @groopdealz. Ashley added a garland tied with black, white, and red patterned fabric, black cake stands, delicious food, and a customized Happy Birthday #Bling banner!

Ashley really out did herself and her Mom loved it. Her menu was Spinach quiche, capris salad, a spinach salad with blackberries with a raspberry vingaigrette, @LaMadeline’s strawberries and creme, then a yummy Lemon creme cake. We all enjoyed each bite! We would love to see how you all are celebrating the seasons so share with us on #facebook, follow us on Pinterest, and check out showmedecorating.com If you like reading our blogs, please leave us a recommendation.

Happy Valentines,

Open or close doors….Ist Impressions

I st impressions matter!

Will Your 1st Impression, Open or Close Doors?

You never get a second Chance to make a 1st Impression!

You CANNOT, NOT make a first impression.

People always form an initial impression about us, our homes, our offices, our businesses the 1st time they come in contact with us, in person, over the telephone or at our front door.

The experts differ on the number of seconds it takes to create a 1st impression, but between 7-17 !

Vision leads the pack of our senses used to make a first impression, smell is second.

Cleaning, sweeping, fresh paint, clean glass, cobwebs, etc (don’t miss up high)

“The 1st time I passed through the country of Switzerland, I had the impression it was swept down with a broom from one end to the other every morning by housewives who dumped all the dirt in Italy” Argentinean Journalist

The Lisa Frost heart @demdaco(the inspiration) and the fun Sandra Magsamen Sign @livingartfully @walmart, are 2 of the focal points

Show Me: Food, Fun and Family on the 4th!

July 4th is fast approaching and I still don’t have plans. Not because they’re aren’t any….it’s because we have so many to choose from! All I know is that it ALWAYS involves Family. If you haven’t figured it out yet we are ALL about FAMILY at Show Me Decorating! We wanted to share a few of our family’s favorite summer foods along with tips to get the table set just right for your festive 4th!

Favorite Meat: Brisket

The Brisket

Ingredients:

Brisket (1/2 pound per person)

Claudes BBQ Sauce

Salt & Pepper

Onion

Beer

Foil & Large Pan

Preparation:

Trim some fat off the brisket but not all because it will help keep the juice in the meat and keep it from drying out.

Seasoning:

Claudes BBQ Sauce, Beer, Salt, Pepper and chopped onion.

Cook Prep:

Using a large pan (throw away foil pans work great) line pan with foil leaving enough to cover the top of your meat. Mix seasoning in the bottom of the pan. Lay meat fattest side up (this allows the fat to dry out not your meat) and season the top of your meat. Wrap your brisket tight in the foil. Recover the entire brisket with foil. Place in over at 300 degrees and allow to cook for up at least 5 hours.

Serving:

Trim remaining fat off brisket, cut and serve.

Favorite Sides

Potato Casserole, Fresh Salad

Kathy’s Potato Casserole

Ingredients:

10-12 golden potatoes

Real butter

Sour cream

Grated cheese

Green onions & salt

Preparation:

Wash and cut potatoes into chunks.

Cooking:

Bring potatoes to boil and allow to cook throughly, Drain potatoes, add 2 stick of butter, 16 ounces of sour cream, 1 1/2 cups of grated cheese and chopped green onions. Mix all together and place in large casserole pan. Top with additional cheese. Re-heat at 350′ for about 20-30 minutes.

Katy’s Fresh Salad

Ingredients:

Baby Spring salad mix

Red/yellow/orange pepper

Cherry tomatoes

Celery

Avocado

Lemon pepper.

Preparation:

Dice peppers, celery and avocado, slice cherry tomatoes in half.

Directions:

Using a large bowl, add salad mix, peppers, celery, avocado, tomatoes and lemon pepper. The juice from the tomatoes and flavor of the lemon pepper create enough flavor that you do not need dressing.

Favorite Desserts

Chocolate Chip Cookies, Lemonade Pie

Jennifer’s Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:

1/2 cup real butter (soften)

1/2 cup Crisco

3/4 cup light brown sugar

3/4 cup Sugar

1 teaspoon Vanilla (real Mexican pure vanilla)

1 Egg

2 1/4 cup of Flour

1 teaspoon Salt

1 teaspoon of Baking Soda

2 cups of semi-sweet Nestle Toll House chocolate chips.

Directions:

Cream butter, Crisco and sugars together. Mix vanilla and egg well. Slowly add flour, salt and baking soda. Add chocolate chips. Drop on cookie sheet in small scoops. Bake at 35o’ until lightly golden brown.

Angela’s Lemonade Pie

Ingredients:

Graham crackers

Butter

Brown sugar

Half gallon of vanilla ice cream

Tub of cool whip

Large can of lemonade concentrate.

Directions:

Crust: Crunch 1 1/2 sleeves of graham crackers, mix one stick of melted butter and 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Combine graham crackers, butter and sugar. Pad crust into 9 x 13 pan or pie pans.

Pie: Mix ice cream, concentrate and fold in cool whip. Pour into crust and then freeze!

July 4th Table

4th of July Table

Don’t forget about setting your serving table for the occasion. Just by sticking with red, white and blue and few 4th of July accent pieces you can create a simple but stylish serving area. My favorite thing was giving some height to the table with flags!

We hope that you try our families favorite summer time recipes. Please share yours with us on Facebook!

Happy 4th!
