Show Me How 2: Add a Smile with Sprinkles

Oreo Cookie Lollipops

Sprinkles and Smiles

Sprinkles and Smiles

Let me “Show You” a quick snack that is a winner with my grandkids. I love to have my grandkids over to make things, either a craft or something fun to eat. On Wednesday nights we go to KSG at Crestview in Midland where they enjoy crafts, bible study, and snacks! The kids take turns bringing the snacks, and this past Wednesday it was their Emma, Ethan, and Noah’s turn.

Of course we cannot just take a pre-packaged snack, the kids want to create something! (I wonder where they get that?) They start pulling out the Sprinkles and here we go!

What you will need:

Candy melts, cookies and sprinkles

Candy melts, cookies and sprinkles

You’ll also need lollipop sticks or craft sticks.

Show me Decorating tip: keep candy melts and sprinkles on hand for a quick and easy food/craft project and everyone is happy!

Set up your supplies and get ready for fun

Set up your supplies and get ready for fun and smiles!

You can always adjust the color of the candy melts or sprinkles if you have a holiday or special event to celebrate. On this occasion we went with spring colors and Easter cello bags for packaging. There are a lot of great ideas on Pinterest for homemade snacks! Check out Craft-O-Maniac  and Eugenie Kitchen.

We used Oreos (double stuffed) and craft sticks to create cookie lollipops. I thought I had the lollipop sticks but Rebecca had used them in making cake pops! So we improvised with the craft sticks.

Noah (3yrs) loves to do it too!

Noah (3yrs) loves to do it too!

We started by separating the cookies, dipping the stick in the candy melt, placing it on the white filling and putting the cookie back together. Allow the cookie to set before dipping and decorating with sprinkles.

Follow the instructions on the candy melt packaging. Then let the kids dip and decorate! (Be careful the mixture is hot!)

Show Me How to Make a Fiesta Wreath

Fiesta Wreath Ingredients

Fiesta in San Antonio begins this year on April 10th. Fiesta is an annual Spring celebration that  started in 1891 when a group of citizens decided to honor the heroes of the Alamo and Battle of San Jacinto with a Battle of Flowers.
The first parade had horse-drawn carriages, bicycles decorated with fresh flowers and floats carrying children dressed as flowers. The participants pelted each other with blossoms. It is the largest celebration in San Antonio and includes many parades(River , Flambeau, & Battle of Flowers) festivals(Oyster Bake & King Williams Fair), NIOSA, and a city wide holiday for Battle of Flowers Parade.

To decorate homes, people add Fiesta wreathes to their front door with lots of ribbon, flowers, in bright colors.

Ready to make your own? You can with Show Me Decorating’s easy to follow steps-

What makes for a fabulous seasonal wreath?

Pallets, pallets, pallets! Have you pinned a pallet transformation? We have, there are so many great ideas and we just had to share what Kathy’s son-in-law Josh created for her daughter while she was away in Midland celebrating Mother’s day. Amanda had collected some pallets from a friend and made a suggestion to Josh for her Mother’s day present! So Josh did what all good husbands do, he went to work!

To quote Josh….

“The transformation of a piece o”!xo#@6%x” pallet to a….uh….I guess a nice little piece of patio table. …….I amaze my self sometimes! Happy mothers day!!”

Show Me a Fiesta Familia for Cinco de Mayo

Show Me A Fiesta

A fiesta theme party is perfect for Cinco de Mayo, graduation, or as Taco Sunday for youth to raise money for camp.  This past Sunday we held a Fiesta Familia Taco lunch at our church. The youth help decorate, cook, serve, and clean up to raise money for camp. This year the theme for camp is “Famunity”-Family and Unity and they will be walking through the book of Genesis. The idea of Family and the timing with the end of Fiesta in San Antonio inspired our Fiesta Familia!

@Pinterest was a great place to start for decorating ideas and inspiration. Be sure and follow all of our ShowMeDecorate boards on @Pinterest.

Fiesta is all about vibrant colors and whimsical touches!

Fiesta, Paper flowers, Piñata, Sombrero's, Cinco de mayo

Viva Fiesta

It’s great when you can beg, borrow, or steal(ok-not really I bought) your decorating ingredients. This year, we were blessed that our church had 20 sombreros and colorful metal Alamo’s that we used on our table tops. I purchased the traditional Fiesta flags and floral garlands. We topped the tables with a variety of colorful table clothes. Then we cut wrapping paper that resembled a serape as our table runners. We made our #Fiesta flowers and were inspired by @AuntPeaches.

Alamo, Sombrero, paper flowers, Fiesta, Cinco de Mayo, Graduation

Fiesta Tabletop

To personalize, print out pictures and use as part of centerpiece. This would be great for a #graduation party or a #birthday party. The youth loved seeing themselves and remembering the great time they had at camp last year and it helped personalize it for our church members.

Fiesta, Cinco De Mayo, Pinatas, Multi colored, Centerpiece, Tablescape, Sombrero

Colorful table tops for Cinco de Mayo

When you are decorating a huge area like a gym on a minimal budget, it’s hard to make an impact. With bright colored Fiesta flags and Floral accordian garland, we were able lower the visual sight a little.

Our Fiesta Familia was lots of fun and it was great seeing the youth serve and participate.

Show Mom how much you love her!

Show Mom how much you love her!

With Mother’s day approaching, our siblings have a tradition for our mom. A fresh spring cleaning and redo of her front porch! Kathy and I do all the work and Jennifer (Show Me Decorating San Antonio team) and Tim (our talented, woodworking, welding brother in Amarillo) participate by helping pay for all the goodies! We plant beautiful new flowers in her pots and front flower beds! We love to give her a great 1st Impression! Mom always tells everyone that she gave us all her creative talents. While she really does not lack for creativity, she is very happy to let her girls take over and do! We are truly the creative, independent, business women we are today because she always let us, encouraged us and allowed us to create, experiment, paint, wallpaper and redo our home as we grew up! So mom, this one is for you! Happy Mother’s Day!

When we assed the porch, we discovered that the current light fixture was too small and not the right proportion. Thank goodness Mark was on hand to assist with the electrical! We also took in to consideration when purchasing and planning the pots and plants, the sunlight that the porch receives. Hint “look at houses that face the direction yours does and duplicate the plants that are thriving. With our drought, the pots and flower beds closet to the front door are priority for color and impact. These can easily be maintained with hand watering. ( I collect water in containers in my shower to keep my entry beds watered)

Ceramic pots are easy to maintain and do not allow the hardwater residue to collect on the outside of the pot as do the clay pots

Knock out Roses, geraniums, petunias and moss rose have been hits for this front porch. We matched the pots to the Lisa Frost Flowers and Butterfly banner and complimented them with flowers in red, yellow and purple.

A Knock out Rose was planted to the right of the doorway for color and balance with the other side.

next cut the stem off with wire cutters

plug in your GG (Lisa’s nickname for her Glue Gun), and glue positive magnet to flower back

2. Jelly Bean Centerpiece

WOW your family and friends with this EASY DIY Centerpiece! Here is what you will need:

1. Tall glass cylinder

2. Branch, spray painted white

3. Internal poster-board cylinder.

I created it by eyeballing the size I would need! I rolled up a piece of poster board and measured the diameter I would need by placing it inside of the glass (that’s what I call “eyeballing”). I noted the space needed for the jelly beans to fill in around it! Marked the size with a pencil. 4. Plugged in my GG…(hot glue gun). Glued the poster board into a cylinder and stuffed the cylinder with florist foam, added the tree branch and stuffed it with newspaper. 5. Set the paper cylinder inside of the glass. 6. Separated the jelly beans by color… 7. Arranged them by color… 8. Layered them inside… 9. Ta-da!!!!
