Show Me Christmas Inspirations from Market 2013

A  Christmas Store takes lots of time and planning, but especially inspiration! We go to market in Atlanta and Dallas in January every year right after the holiday season. Believe me -it takes alot to inspire us especially after a busy year! After spending several days looking at what’s new and hot at market, we get together with our team and plan the theme’s for Miss Cayce’s Christmas Store and Show Me Decorating.  Here’s a quick look at what inspired us and soon we’ll unveil Miss Cayce’s spin on the looks from market.

#Christmastreetheme, #TraditionalRedandGreenChristmas, Show Me Decorating

Christmas Tree Theme Traditional Red and Green

Traditional red and green explosion with a tree top filled with florals and pops of lime green.

Christmas tree themes, #Christmastreetoppers,North Pole, #flockedtree, #elves

Christmas Tree North Pole Theme

North Pole a whimsical play on Elves and friends on a snowy tree. We love the elf legs as a tree topper. The colors of red, emerald green, and lime green with a pop of white say Welcome to the North Pole.

Peacock, Turquoise, Christmas Theme

Peacock colors for Christmas

Peacock Splendor – we love the monochromatic color of turquoise and peacock feathers.

Christmas Tree Theme, Vintage Shabby Chic, Show Me Decorating, Cream, Silver

Christmas Tree Vintage Shabby Chic

Vintage Cream and Silver-Shabby Chic is back! We saw this throughout market in home decor, furniture, gifts, and jewelry. Vintage was all over! Wait until you see our take on this look-we’re going to call it Silver Service!

Snowman tree theme, Arch Tree, Doorway

Christmas Tree Theme -Snowman Arch Tree

A what? A SNOWMAN ARCH TREE- oh my! Wouldn’t this be amazing for an entrance or doorway. Frosty and friends also translates to a tree or garland with flocked foliage. We saw lots of snowmen!

We work hard at market but enjoy every minute of it and can’t wait for you to see the new Miss Cayce’s Christmas Store, Midland. Did you know it’s worth a trip from anywhere?

Did you see a theme you really liked? Comment below

How do you decorate your tree? We would love for you to tell us and share a picture or two.

Show Me Christmas in July-How to Pick a Theme

Royal Red & Gold

“Theming for a Lifestyle”

Definition of a theme:

Wikipedia: “a central topic, a subject or concept (the author is trying to point out)”

Webster’s: “a unifying or dominant idea or motif with common elements”

Show Me Decorating: simplified focus, narrowing choices of common elements when decorating for Christmas, parties, events, home décor and personal style

Why Theme?

1. A unifying concept or theme gives even modest home displays a professional sheen

2. Simplifies your decorating, buying

3. Saves money and time

4. Creates focus and finish

We live it,it is our way of life!

Home: Home décor and interior decorating

Volunteer work: Teacher appreciation, charity events

Church: Women’s ministry and special events

Dressing: simplifies getting ready, packing and looking pulled together

We have lived this way for so long and have taught our kids as we celebrated birthdays, hosted baby or bridal showers, that they are using these same ideas in decorating their homes and celebrations.

To see more of our shared ideas, table displays, parties and event decorations, decorated Christmas trees and houses, check out our blog!

Plan around a collection, interest, hobby or home décor

Example: a Kitchen decorated with Cookie cutters and gingerbread men, candy and treats!

Kitchen decorated for Christmas

Gingerbread for Christmas

A child’s room- Boy’s tree decorated with sport trophies, baseball gloves, hat and shoes

Christmas decorating for boys

Trophies, Shoes, and Hats can be decorations for a boys tree

Girls’s tree decorated with teapots, dolls, shoes, even a ballet Tutu!

Little girls Christmas tree

Tutu’s, tea cups, and dolls can decorate a girls tree!

Christmas Trees come in many shapes and sizes and decorated a 101 different ways. However the most popular is a 7 1/2′ green tree, decorated in traditional red and green, with a touch of gold. Many of the tree decoration suppliers claim to sell 80% red to all the other colors! Whatever your taste or style there is a theme or color story for you! Here we share a few of our most popular color combinations and themes!

Christmas Gone Wild

Christmas Gone Wild-“Wow” your traditional red, green, and gold holiday theme with leopard velvet ribbon mixed with plaids and stripes and take your personal mixture of family ornaments over the top!

Gold Frankincense & Myrrh

Gold Frankincense and Myrrh-These Royal jewel tone colors are fit for a king! Your Holiday tree will be a Joyous Celebration with gold balls, a peacock pick, ribbon with copper diamonds and your collection of crosses and nativity ornaments.

Winter Whimsey

Winter Whimsy-Pop the traditional red & green norm with Black and White! Zebra Stripes, checks, and polka dot ribbon will do just that and more. Add in your favorite snowman ornaments for a touch of Winter Whimsy.

Be Jolly Merry Mischief

Peppermint Twist

Peppermint twist will make you as jolly as Old St. Nick! The traditional colors of red and white take a twist.  Mix checks, dancing polka dots with red velvet, and candy ribbon for a crowd pleasing collection that’s as sweet as a peppermint.

Quick tip, view the Christmas tree in black and white and substitute your own color or theme to create your unique look.  The 3 ingredients hold the key to a well decorated tree, Ribbon, Balls and Floral.

Pallets, pallets, pallets! Have you pinned a pallet transformation? We have, there are so many great ideas and we just had to share what Kathy’s son-in-law Josh created for her daughter while she was away in Midland celebrating Mother’s day. Amanda had collected some pallets from a friend and made a suggestion to Josh for her Mother’s day present! So Josh did what all good husbands do, he went to work!

To quote Josh….

“The transformation of a piece o”!xo#@6%x” pallet to a….uh….I guess a nice little piece of patio table. …….I amaze my self sometimes! Happy mothers day!!”

1. Magnetic silk Flowers attached to table runners,

shop for silk flowers in 3 sizes, small, medium and large (Variety in size and color add interest)

next cut the stem off with wire cutters

plug in your GG (Lisa’s nickname for her Glue Gun), and glue positive magnet to flower back

2. Jelly Bean Centerpiece

WOW your family and friends with this EASY DIY Centerpiece! Here is what you will need:

1. Tall glass cylinder

2. Branch, spray painted white

3. Internal poster-board cylinder.

I created it by eyeballing the size I would need! I rolled up a piece of poster board and measured the diameter I would need by placing it inside of the glass (that’s what I call “eyeballing”). I noted the space needed for the jelly beans to fill in around it! Marked the size with a pencil. 4. Plugged in my GG…(hot glue gun). Glued the poster board into a cylinder and stuffed the cylinder with florist foam, added the tree branch and stuffed it with newspaper. 5. Set the paper cylinder inside of the glass. 6. Separated the jelly beans by color… 7. Arranged them by color… 8. Layered them inside… 9. Ta-da!!!!

Decorate Once Celebrate Twice or Three times..Valentines, Birthdays, and more

Decorating can be so fun when it’s easy and especially rewarding when you benefit more than once! At Show Me Decorating, we go all out for Christmas and ok-Halloween, but I also love to add a touch of the other celebrations through out the year. It may just be my candle jars changed out with sea shells for summer or back to school supplies for the month of September. I do LOVE Valentines.( Maybe, it’s because I’m a mother of 4 boys but I always want to spread L-O-V-E instead of f-i-g-h-t-i-n-g, but that’s another story.) This year for Valentines,  I decorated my door,  my candle jars, and my new chandelier.

Valentine Decorating-Jennifer '13

To decorate, I tied new @ShowMeDecorating.com bows with our fabulous wired ribbon for my door, chandelier, and candle jars. Great way to re purpose from Christmas! I love my @LisaFrost door banner and my talented niece and Show Me Decorator, Katy,  created the cute complimentary Hearts that are a little bit funky. I always love to add color with flowers for my pots from @Lowes and change these out for the season. I filled my candle jars with @conversation hearts and @redhots from @Target where I also found the cute Heart cut out table runner.

So, when an opportunity arrived to have a party-I was ready!

Valentine Table set

There is nothing more fun than hosting a party for a friend’s birthday!  I was very blessed this week to host a surprise luncheon for my friend, Suzanne.  Ashley, Suzanne’s daughter,  a fabulous chef and party specialist created a yummy lunch and fabulous birthday decorations that complemented my Valentine’s decorations. She really out did herself! I had decorated my chandelier with #showmedecorating #bows and covered the table in a simple black cloth with a chevron table runner from @groopdealz. Ashley added a garland tied with black, white, and red patterned fabric, black cake stands, delicious food, and a customized Happy Birthday #Bling banner!

Valentine Chicks 1

Ashley really out did herself and her Mom loved it. Her menu was Spinach quiche, capris salad, a spinach salad with blackberries with a raspberry vingaigrette, @LaMadeline’s strawberries and creme, then a yummy Lemon creme cake. We all enjoyed each bite! We would love to see how you all are celebrating the seasons so share with us on #facebook, follow us on Pinterest, and check out showmedecorating.com If you like reading our blogs, please leave us a recommendation.

Happy Valentines,

My door is the 1st impression of the theme of the party! Love the inspiration from my Lisa Frost Valentine heart!

Miss Cayce’s is celebrating 29 years (1984) in business in the Permian basin. because we are a seasonal store and we have lots of women that work for us and they change sometimes from season to season it was hard to keep up with birthdays, you would remember some and celebrate and forget others and have hurt feelings! So years ago we instituted a policy, if your birthday falls during our open season, you are responsible for celebrating and inviting us to the party! We have had catered lunches, complete with cake and party favors, and if you don’t throw your own celebration you cannot be upset if no one knows! Because my birthday is in February, the 12th to be exact, and close to Valentines day (one of my favorites) I throw myself a Valentine/Birthday party and invite my friends and family. This year was especially special because my little sister Jennifer and our Show Me Decorating team, Sal and Lanisa (from San Antonio) surprised me!

Three Layer Brownies

1 cup butter

4 squares unsweetened chocolate

1 1/2 t vanilla

2 c sugar

1 c flour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. melt chocolate with butter, cool and add other ingredients. mix well, but do not beat. Put in a greased and floured 10x 15 pan and bake for 20-25 minutes. cool.

Spread with icing made from 1/2 c soft butter, 3 cups sifted powered sugar, few drops cream and 1t vanilla. Smooth as evenly as possible. chill slightly

Glaze with 1/2 c butter melted with 2 squares unsweetened chocolate and cooled.

These freeze well. I love this recipe because I made the week before, drizzled with white chocolate tinted pink and froze.

I collect recipes from friends when I attend an event or party and like the food served. This recipe was given to me by my good friend Cliffy who served these at a reception.

These sandwiches also freeze well and are perfect for a brunch lunch or late dinner! I made the week before and made extra to store in the freezer.
