Show Me How to Make a Fiesta Wreath

Fiesta Wreath Ingredients

Fiesta in San Antonio begins this year on April 10th. Fiesta is an annual Spring celebration that  started in 1891 when a group of citizens decided to honor the heroes of the Alamo and Battle of San Jacinto with a Battle of Flowers.
The first parade had horse-drawn carriages, bicycles decorated with fresh flowers and floats carrying children dressed as flowers. The participants pelted each other with blossoms. It is the largest celebration in San Antonio and includes many parades(River , Flambeau, & Battle of Flowers) festivals(Oyster Bake & King Williams Fair), NIOSA, and a city wide holiday for Battle of Flowers Parade.

To decorate homes, people add Fiesta wreathes to their front door with lots of ribbon, flowers, in bright colors.

DIY ideas in this photo…

1. Magnetic silk Flowers attached to table runners,

shop for silk flowers in 3 sizes, small, medium and large (Variety in size and color add interest)

next cut the stem off with wire cutters

plug in your GG (Lisa’s nickname for her Glue Gun), and glue positive magnet to flower back

now attach to your table runner with another magnet

2. Jelly Bean Centerpiece

WOW your family and friends with this EASY DIY Centerpiece! Here is what you will need:

1. Tall glass cylinder

2. Branch, spray painted white

3. Internal poster-board cylinder.

I created it by eyeballing the size I would need! I rolled up a piece of poster board and measured the diameter I would need by placing it inside of the glass (that’s what I call “eyeballing”). I noted the space needed for the jelly beans to fill in around it! Marked the size with a pencil. 4. Plugged in my GG…(hot glue gun). Glued the poster board into a cylinder and stuffed the cylinder with florist foam, added the tree branch and stuffed it with newspaper. 5. Set the paper cylinder inside of the glass. 6. Separated the jelly beans by color… 7. Arranged them by color… 8. Layered them inside… 9. Ta-da!!!!

Happy Easter… xox lisA

An Egg-stra Special Easter Table

An Egg-stra Special Easter Table !

Are you planning a luncheon, family dinner or Easter feast? A great looking table will complement your wonderful food!

I love to use and reuse bases from other projects and get double or even triple duty out of my investment. That is why I love working with artificial florals, garlands and greenery. They don’t die and have to be thrown away! I also like to use garlands down the middle of a table to decorate seasonally. This is perfect complement to serving buffet style, a sit down meal or a fun dessert display! Here are the supplies that I started with……(I did make a quick run to #Walmart to pick up new plastic Easter eggs and grass, so many colors and fun patterns)

Turquoise Table cloth (last Spring #Walmart) and Black and White Chevron table runner (birthday gift)

Hand wrapped and wired Easter Egg garland

Bright Easter Egg Garland 5′
9′ Garland Sky blue

Close up of greenery twisted around Easter garland to secure.

Close up of greenery twisted around Easter garland to secure.

The 9′ garland in Sky blue (from Rebecca’s Christmas decorations) was the base to attach all the fun Easter too. I started by fluffing and shaping it out and placing it down the middle of the table, allowing it to hang over the ends. The Easter egg garland is a great hand wrapped wired garland, easy to shape out and attach to the blue garland by twisting the greenery over in several places. (no hot glue gun needed). The 5′ Easter garland was centered in the middle of the 9′ blue garland. After a quick trip to Walmart for new plastic Easter eggs and grass After securing the two garlands together it was time to add a focal point, Rebecca’s Easter bunny and a yellow basket. I used the garland greenery and Easter garland to wire on the bunny and basket.

Fluffy Easter bunny and yellow basket

Now it’s time to fill the basket with an assortment of plastic Easter eggs, different sizes, colors and patterns. I also tucked in a few eggs to the garland.

The Easter basket is ready to be filled. use and assortment of, colors, sizes and patterns.

Do I compliment my room decor, use a theme such as Santa’s, or Snowmen or something more sophisticated like Champagne Wishes with a touch of Mink, or traditional but add a touch of black or lime green to really make it pop this year.  You can feature a collection of ornaments or use a mixture of special family favorites.

Ribbon is a key ingredient in giving your tree a distinct and finished look. By following the Show Me Decorating steps, you can tie fabulous bows with wired ribbon available in a wide assortment of textures, patterns, and colors.  You’ll start at the top and place two bows back to back then continue down the tree in a diamond pattern.

Balls are next and will make a huge impact. You’ll need three sizes to give your tree depth and dimension and make your ornaments pop. Start with the largest  (largest 8″ or 200mm, everything is bigger in Texas!) Medium (6″ or 140-150mm)to smallest (4″ 100mm) with the largest at the bottom, medium in the middle, and the smaller towards the top filling in your diamond pattern as you go.

Now your ready to add the secret ingredient florals. Gorgeous poinsettia and glitter leaves will add a new twist to your tree and since they are permanent botanicals they will last all season.  These new florals look so real that even Martha Stewart would have to look twice. Following our same technique you will fill in the diamond pattern left by the balls.  Glitter says Christmas and is representative of an icy morning and Santa’s twinkle in his eye! If you are decorating to your room’s color palette of chocolate-brown, a little bit of glitter will keep your Christmas from being flat and set Christmas apart from every other day of the week. Gold glitter leaves will go with most theme’s but also come in lime green, purple, red, silver, or bronze.

Our favorite is next with your collection of ornaments.  We love to use family treasures and even those treasured handmade macaroni ornaments can find a place on your tree.    Organization is key here so group like ornaments together like your Santa’s or Snowmen or by collection like Crystal or Christopher Radko. You’ll want to place ornaments largest to smallest and start in groups of three. You can place one’s of like kind at the top then side to side moving your way down and around your tree. A secret tip hang a few out on the tips and some nestled more into the tree.

Place your favorite tree skirt around the bottom and you are ready to WOW your family and friends.

Viva Fiesta! Show Me some Streamers

Fiesta Time!

Whether you live in San Antonio enjoying 11 days of parades, festivals and more or you are having a Fiesta themed party for Cinco de Mayo or Graduation Celebrations.

Show Me Decorating can Show you how with some easy to follow steps for making a fabulous Fiesta wreath.

Flowers, flowers, flowers, take center stage for Fiesta! Ribbon, bright, colorful and fun for streamers! Wow, what a statement. Coordinating wreaths for double doors!

Open up the back of the wreath and touch every branch as you shape moving around the back.

Use a pipe cleaner (chenille stem) on the back as a loop to hang your wreath. Wrap two chenille stems together (for strength) and attach to wire frame, now turn the wreath around and see how the pine branches grow, shaping and fluffing out.

Focal points add interest, we love @Round Top Collection for metal pieces and of course a bow using the www.app.showmedecorating.com

Fiesta is all about vivid colors and we fell in love with this embroidered ribbon from @Farrisilk. It reminded us of the Fiesta Queen’s dresses. Place your ingredients in a triangle pattern.

Place flowers in a triangle, add a needle point ivy for filler and interest to the green pine base. Shape flowers and remember every flower has a face so make sure it shows.

We tied a full big bow (1 of the focal points in the 1st triangle) with a print ribbon, solid, mesh, and streamers. Add in half bows as you fill in the wreath and your triangles.

Fiesta is all about the streamers. It’s a great way to make a colorful statement and inexpensive! We tied our streamers (@ReliantRibbon) onto a heavy piece of wire or you could use the flat part of a hanger, then we attached it to our wreath base. You can remove it for easier storage, or take off for a different look.
