Trick or treats? “How to” Halloween garland for Miss Cayce’s front entrance!

Everyone feels like a kid when Halloween rolls around! What was your favorite candy to receive? Did you ever get the wax coke bottles filled with a liquid treat?

or how about the wax lips and teeth?

Did you know whose house gave out the best candy?

If you love Halloween and decorating as we do you, you will love this simple, easy, step by step garland used on our front entrance at Miss Cayce’s Christmas Store in Midland, Texas, home to Show Me Decorating!

We hope you enjoy decorating and cooler fall weather. Watch as we transform this garland to fall and Christmas, in upcoming post!

Smiling pumpkin welcomes visitors! Happy Halloween!

Start off with a good quality garland, shape out the branches for a full look

Attaching the garland is easy if you have installed permanent screws in your brick, metal or wood door facing

After green garland is secure, add lime green mesh, bow loops in the middle and single loops in the corners, secure with wire and greenery

2nd and 3rd rolls of mesh added, big loops and tail on each side of doorway
Designer tip: each step should be able to stand alone!

Mesh comes on a roll (different quality and price are available at the retail level). check for good weight and texture to insure it will hold up in inclement weather. best source:
www.showmedecorating.com

Using the greenery branches, secure the mesh by twisting like a twist tie

Wire on #Dollar Store pumpkin buckets, great focal point   low-cost!

Get the most bang for your buck with a pop of Black and white! use wire to secure to garland. Ribbon is available on our website.

Betty, drills a small hole in lollipop sticks to secure to garland with a florist wire, this step is optional

Remember the  designer tip? Your design must look complete after each step. You could stop here and celebrate Halloween and add more next year!

Next step is to add 8″ balls as supporting focal points. Glitter polka dots add a whimsical touch to the Hot pink, lime green and turquoise!

The next step is to add large candy lollipops (2 sizes and mixture of colors)! available on our website  www.showmedecorating.com

Bright colored candy lollipops and balls add a Halloween treat!

Add the finishing touch with smaller (4″ and 6″) colored balls and sprigs of candy corn picks and it’s done! How many items can we keep for Fall and or Christmas?
Now its time for the fall weather to cool off!

Measure your doorway or entrance to determine how many 9′ (normal length) faux green garlands you will need. Lighted garland with colored lights added in, would add a spooky Halloween touch! Secure garland and leave up to decorate for Halloween, Fall/Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Open or close doors….Ist Impressions

I st impressions matter!

Will Your 1st Impression, Open or Close Doors?

You never get a second Chance to make a 1st Impression!

You CANNOT, NOT make a first impression.

People always form an initial impression about us, our homes, our offices, our businesses the 1st time they come in contact with us, in person, over the telephone or at our front door.

The experts differ on the number of seconds it takes to create a 1st impression, but between 7-17 !

Vision leads the pack of our senses used to make a first impression, smell is second.

Cleaning, sweeping, fresh paint, clean glass, cobwebs, etc (don’t miss up high)

Show Me a Champagne Toast …….Bow?

We love to decorate with Glitter! We have a famous saying at Miss Cayce’s! “Get Glittered or go home!” After a trip to the store you will always have a touch a shine! This tree is named “Champagne Toast” and I think you will agree. With the touch of mink, glitter and sparkle, it is ready for a night on the town or your living room!

When selecting a theme, and color story with start with ribbon. We love to layer ribbons for drama and interest! This is a brown velvet, Leopard print and glittery silver and gold. The “Mink Stole” will be added to the tree in lengths!

We selected our ribbon based on our Theme, Champagne Toast

Step 1, make a loop and twist

Step 2, make another loop and twist

Step 3, cut top ribbon

Step 4, add next ribbon loop and twist

Step 5, make another loop and twist

Step 6, cut second ribbon

Step 7, add wire across middle, twist behind to secure

Step 8 Next is brown velvet and we tie the same just making the loops slightly bigger to show after we place the 1st bow on top

When tying larger bows it is easier to tie them separately and then wire together!

Show Me Happy Halloween Party!

The house is decorated and now it is time for a party and Trick or Treaters!!!

I wanted to share pictures of my Halloween house decorations!

Welcome to my home!

I love pumpkins and mums because they do double duty! I enjoy them for Halloween all the way thru to Thanksgiving! I decided to create a pumpkin patch in my flower beds and left my mums in pots and added the pumpkins in with the plants left over from summer.

My wacky witch wreath on the front door!

Welcome trick or treaters! I am more fun than scary. I love the pop of Black and White!

My fireplace before

My Fireplace after

The orange pumpkins glow on the mantel with their foil finish! notice the same candle sticks and orange candles? Not everything has to change out! I love double duty decorating!

My piano top is a great place to showcase my smiling pumpkins!

My chandelier is spooked up with Black glitter garland, witches arms and a big black spider!

Rebecca adds a table runner to be the base for the Dept. 56 Halloween Village display

Now the fun begins with the spooky set up! Base to add height.

Rebecca gets started

We use 2 houses, trees, and accessories to create a spooky scene!

Rebecca checks lights & mechanical pieces to be sure all is in working order as she sets up!

We have Fog, and the set up continues

Rebecca loves her Halloween Dept. 56 village! especially the foggy base.

A favorite spot to view the spooky village!

Now we are ready for a party, or should I say parties! Once I am decorated I will host multiple parties, and get double even triple duty from my decorations! Tables, chairs, serving pieces are all ready so let the party begin…….

We are dressed for the occasion!

Fun simple food is the way to go! So many ideas from Pinterest, Woman’s Day, Better Homes and Gardens, TomKat Studios and the list goes on and on! I chose a chili bar with all the fixins!

Check out the next blog for the party food!

Show Me a Fall Wreath (that turns to Christmas?)

Green wreath base with Lime green sparkle berry garland and wired fall garland and picks to add for fall celebration!

A green wreath for fall? Yes look around, there are many trees, shrubs and bushes that are evergreen and the wreath will look alive. The basics will even change out to Christmas! When storage is an issue, a great solution is a transitional wreath.

Definition of a transitional wreath: Wreath base and a garland or spray added on that can transition or change out seasonally. One base many seasons!

In this case we chose a mixed pine wreath (sturdy wire and good quality greenery). Have you ever had a wreath or garland that looked good the first year(and it was a really good deal), and then the next year it looked like crushed, limp dog hair? Well the saying goes …. You get what you pay for! We like to use a quality faux greenery wreath that is made from shredded vinyl, the thicker the ply of vinyl the more resilience or memory the greenery has to bounce back from year to year after being stored. You can tell when you run the greenery limbs thru your hand and it feels stiff, (if it feels really soft, it will not hold up).

Next we choose a great lime green crackle berry garland that matched with our fall choices and would transition to Christmas with ease. So now we have our transitional base.

Adding fall picks and sprays to a green wreath by wiring in with the greenery allows it to be taken off and the plain base to transform to Christmas!

Fun fall ribbon, a touch of the wild side with leopard print ribbon.

Wired ribbon in a mix of solid, plaid and yes leopard ribbon has whimsy and fun. Long tails allow for the ribbon to be worked in the wreath! Wire the bow on with the wire used to hold the bow together

Need to know how to tie a bow? Check out the Show Me Decorating app $2.99 for iPhone & iPad in the AppStore!

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/show-me-decorating/id386099720?mt=8

add fall garland and picks (do not glue) and use the greenery wire to wind in and attach

Fall garland with autumn leaves was added to wreath base all the way around, and held on by winding in greenery, next the fall picks with pumpkins and gourds were added, again by winding in and securing with the greenery base limbs. We like to use hand wrapped or wired sprays, picks and berries which allows us to shape out adding dimension and interest! (no wire is limp)

Wire on fall garland and fall picks, add ribbon bow and a fall sign as your focal point

Fun

Tune in again and see how this base wreath transitions to Christmas with a few easy steps and supplies!

Happy decorating y’all!
